God Judges Ahaziah

After Ahab died, Moab rebelled against Israel

Ahaziah became king of Israel

He falls out of window in his upper room and injured himself severely.

He then sent messengers to Baal-Zebub (“lord of the flies” or Prince Baal=> used in NT for Satan the prince of demons)

God sends Elijah with a message to intercept these messengers and tell them:

2 Kings 1:3 - 4 (NASB) ³But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and say to them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron?’ ⁴“Now therefore thus says the LORD, ‘You shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but you shall surely die.’” Then Elijah departed.

These carry the message back to Ahaziah.

He then sends 50 soldiers to Elijah and Elijah calls on God to strike them, which God does.

Ahaziah then sends another 50 soldiers and Elijah again calls on God to strike them dead, and He does.

A third time he repeats this and these soldiers are scared and ask Elijah to have mercy on them which he does

2 Kings 1:15 - 16 (NASB) ¹⁵The angel of the LORD said to Elijah, “Go down with him; do not be afraid of him.” So he arose and went down with him to the king. ¹⁶Then he said to him, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron—is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word?—therefore you shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.’”

And he died.
