About the Musicians
1 Chronicles 25:7 - 8 (NASB) 7Their number who were trained in singing to the LORD, with their £relatives, all who were skillful, was 288. 8They cast lots for their duties, all alike, the small as well as the great, the teacher as well as the pupil.
· NOTE: The teacher and pupil had different roles, but equal responsibility.
· NOTE: How this reflects the Trinity (equal as persons, different as roles); and marriage (equal as persons, different roles based on gender); and church (equal as persons but different functions in the body of Christ).
CHAPTER 26
About the Gatekeepers
These men were:
1 Chronicles 26:6 (NASB) 6Also to his son Shemaiah sons were born who ruled over the house of their father, for they were mighty men of valor.
1 Chronicles 26:8 (NASB) 8All these were of the sons of Obed-edom; they and their sons and their relatives were able men with strength for the service, 62 from Obed-edom.
These men, similar to the musicians, also cast lots for the gate for which they would be responsible.
1 Chronicles 26:13 (NASB) 13They cast lots, the small and the great alike, according to their fathers’ households, for every gate.

1 Chronicles 27:23 - 24 (NASB) 23But David did not count those twenty years of age and under, because the LORD had said He would multiply Israel as the stars of heaven. 24Joab the son of Zeruiah had begun to count them, but did not finish; and because of this, wrath came upon Israel, and the number was not included in the account of the chronicles of King David.

CHAPTER 28
Solomon Instructed to Build the Temple
· David assembles leaders and gave a speech
· It was in my heart to build a house to rest the ark and the footstool of God
· BUT God said
o You shall NOT build a house for MY NAME
o Why? You are a man of war and have shed blood
o YET I have chosen you to be over Israel, and Judah to be the ruler.
· He (God) has chosen my son (Solomon) to build the temple.
· BEYOND THAT….I will establish his kingdom forever IF he is:
o Follows my commandments with a steadfast heart
· NOW THEREFORE:

1 Chronicles 28:8 (NASB) 8“So now, in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the LORD, and in the hearing of our God, observe and seek after all the commandments of the LORD your God so that you may possess the good land and bequeath it to your sons after you forever.
· To SOLOMON he said:
o
1 Chronicles 28:9 - 10 (NASB) 9“As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, (then)He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, (then) He will reject you forever. 10“Consider now, for the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; be courageous and act.”
· David’s final charge to Solomon

1 Chronicles 28:20 - 21 (NASB) 20Then David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and courageous, and act; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you until all the work for the service of the house of the LORD is finished. 21“Now behold, there are the divisions of the priests and the Levites for all the service of the house of God, and every willing man of any skill will be with you in all the work for all kinds of service. The officials also and all the people will be entirely at your command.”
NOTE: David’s charge:
BE STRONG, BE CORAGEOUS, ACT, DON”T FEAR…GOD IS WITH YOU.
CHAPTER 29
Offerings for the Temple
· Now the purpose of the Temple was for God, not for man.
1 Chronicles 29:1 (NASB) 1Then King David said to the entire assembly, “My son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, is still young and inexperienced and the work is great; for the temple is not for man, but for the LORD God.
1 Chronicles 29:9 (NASB) 9Then the people rejoiced because they had offered so willingly, for they made their offering to the LORD with a whole heart, and King David also rejoiced greatly.
David’s Praise to God
1 Chronicles 29:13 (NASB) 13“Now therefore, our God, we thank You, and praise Your glorious name.
1 Chronicles 29:16 (NASB) 16“O LORD our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build You a house for Your holy name, it is from Your hand, and all is Yours.
1 Chronicles 29:17 (NASB) 17“Since I know, O my God, that You try the heart and delight in uprightness, I, in the integrity of my heart, have willingly offered all these things; so now with joy I have seen Your people, who are present here, make their offerings willingly to You.
1 Chronicles 29:18 (NASB) 18“O LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, our fathers, preserve this forever in the intentions of the heart of Your people, and direct their heart to You;
Solomon Anointed King
· People made Solomon king the 2nd time
· Zadok appointed priest
· All Israel obeyed him
· All the leaders and mighty men & sons of King David SUBMITTED to him
· Lord exalted Solomon exceedingly.
David Dies
· 40 year reign
