CHAPTER 12

David’s Army at Hebron

· They came with a “perfect” or “loyal” heart and of “one mind” to make David king: 1 Chronicles 12:38 (NASB) ³⁸All these, being men of war who could draw up in battle formation, came to Hebron with a perfect heart to make David king over all Israel; and all the rest also of Israel were of one mind to make David king.

· PRAYER: God there is power in being a loyal heart and having one mind. Give that to me for those whom I report to at work and church…and give me a family that has a loyal heart and single mind to come together in our family. TYG.

CHAPTER 13

David Brings Up the Ark from Kirjath Jearim

1 Chronicles 13:2 (NASB) ²David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is from the LORD our God, let us send everywhere to our kinsmen who remain in all the land of Israel, also to the priests and Levites who are with them in their cities with pasture lands, that they may meet with us;

· Note the double check: 1) if it seems good to you; and 2) if it is from the Lord.

· This is a good way to check your decisions—counsel from other Godly people, and double checked against the Word of God.

1 Chronicles 13:9 - 12 (NASB) ⁹When they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzza put out his hand to hold the ark, because the oxen nearly upset it.

· Note: Uzza was going against God’s clear command

o Numbers 4:15 (NASB) ¹⁵“When Aaron and his sons have finished covering the holy objects and all the furnishings of the sanctuary, when the camp is to set out, after that the sons of Kohath shall come to carry them, so that they will not touch the holy objects and die. These are the things in the tent of meeting which the sons of Kohath are to carry.

¹⁰The anger of the LORD burned against Uzza, so He struck him down because he put out his hand to the ark; and he died there before God.

· Note: His good intentions did not save him

· Note: Never listen to the world system (even your own thoughts) on how to do God’s business.

¹¹Then David became angry because of the LORD’S outburst against Uzza; and he called that place ^£Perez-uzza to this day. ¹²David was afraid of God that day, saying, “How can I bring the ark of God home to me?”

· Note: How fear follows anger.

· Question: but why was David angry. God had done exactly what He had said He would do if they did exactly what they did. Should this be a surprise?
