JOB 6-10 Observations

CHAPTER 6

Job: My Complaint is Just

· Concede: my righteousness still stands

o This is amazing, and can only come from the life of a person whose integrity is in tact.

o He can look his counselors (and accusers) in the eye…and still say without blinking… “my righteousness still stands.”

CHAPTER 7

Job: My Suffering is Comfortless

· I will complain in the bitterness of my soul

o BUT I WILL NOT CURSE GOD

CHAPTER 8

Bildad: Job Should Repent

· Bildad is a symbol of tradition

· He questions Job’s purity and uprightness

o If you were pure and upright

o But Job was both pur and upright

· Inquire please of the former age (look at the past…and the traditions we all know)

· Your calamity is similar to one who has forgotten God

CHAPTER 9

Job: There is No Mediator

· My heart is not hardened against God, for who has hardened his heart and prospered?

o This is a strange question to come from one who is obviously not prospering in the present.

o Job must have a much longer term view of prosperity than his physical possessions in order to make this statement or raise this question

· Then Job comments that he has no mediator

CHAPTER 10

Job: I Would Plead with God

· I will speak in the bitterness of my soul

o YET JOB DID NOT CURSE GOD

· Job now raises a series of questions to God (note: it is OK to raise honest questions to God…this is not sin)

o Q1. Is it good for You to oppress?

o Q2. Do You despise the work of Your hands?

o Q3. Can You smile on the counsel of the wicked?

o Q4. Do You have eyes like men? Aren’t you God .. and see through this?

o Q5. Do You see like a man sees?

o Q6. Are Your days like the days of a man (are You like man?)

o Q7. Are Your years like the days of a mighty man?

o Q8. Why then have You brought me out of the womb?

· I would have been better off to have never been born (YET HE DID NOT CURSE GOD).
